Does the disc spin up at all?
No, it doesn't spin at all. When you first turn it on, you get the regular gamecube cube intro screen, and then it goes to options. When I select Game Play and press A to confirm, it gives a big Question mark (?) and the message "Please insert a NINTENDO GAMECUBE DISK. Whenever I open and close the lid, nothing is ever spinning.
Well now that you've given us more information on the error, you're in luck. Because it's not the laser, PCB or motor. When you receive the
specific error message the way you describe it, "Please insert a NINTENDO GAMECUBE DISK," and nothing will spin, that does not indicate a bad laser. It is a bad GameCube Lid Closed Door Sensor.
If you have an old Gamecube laying around, you can easily cannibalize it to get the part. If not, it's not that expensive at $10.99. You can buy it here:
https://www.nesrepairsshop.com/Catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=70_88&products_id=907This is what is happening. Your gamecube is constructed so that it will not allow your disks to spin if the door is open. The problem is, if this switch is broken, it fools the system into thinking the door is always open and no disk inserted, even when closed and disk is inserted. Thus no disk will spin and you get the message, "No Disc. Please Insert a Nintendo Gamecube Disc." Replace this part and your problem is solved. Hope that helps.
