n64gm145 - Developed by Namco Limited, Nintendo Software Technology Corporation and Published by Nintendo of America Inc., "Ridge Racer 64" was released for the Nintendo 64 (N64) Entertainment system on February 14, 2000. RR64 is a 1st-Person / 3rd-Person Perspective port of the classic arcade racing game where you beat the clock and get to the finish line first to win. It includes all of the action, speed and competition of the arcade and playstation game, with much more. RR64 is clearly one of the best racing games designed for the Nintendo 64 system. In my view it's one of the few times a racing game has made the Fast and the Furious, also fun. You can compete on never-before-seen tracks consisting of three courses, each with three diverse variations, making a total of nine racing courses that you must get through. There are 25 RR64 cars which you can acquire, each offering very different speed, handling and power capabilities. After each race class that you win, you receive 3 new cars to challenge in Attack mode. The great part is that if you win against them, you get them to race in your future Grand Prix challenges. The gameplay control is a near perfect blend of arcade and simulation racing, tight and responsive. But it's the extreme power sliding used throughout Ridge Racer 64 that sets it apart from other racing offerings. You can choose from three versions of the power slide, consisting of Ridge Racer, Ridge Racer Revolution or the new Ridge Racer 64 slides. The graphics are solid, smooth and very crisp. They feature a refreshing change of pace in realism (as opposed to cartoonish) that sets it apart from other N64 games. The textures are good and the environments feature beautiful scenes of the Pacific Northwest, deserts, the southwest and Ridge Racer city. The sound and music are phenomenal, and I would give both a 10 out of 10. You can play Ridge racer 64 in single player mode, but it is the multiplayer mode that has gamers jumping for joy. Four modes are available for single-player racers, which are Quick Play, Grand Prix, Car Attack and Time Attack. Bit it's the multiplayer option where up to four players simultaneously race on the same screen that outshines even great single mode racing. Because it's good--"Real Good." This is a great game developed by Namco, and a thrill for all ages to play. Ridge Racer 64 is also known by the abbreviated title RR64. Pre-owned - Includes Game Only - Rarity Rating C - Ridge Racer 64 game review by Prince "Nes Gamers."
