Darius Twin

sgm0224 - Developed and Published by Taito Corporation, "Darius Twin" was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in November of 1991. This is a 3rd-Person Perspective, Side-Scrolling action sci-fi shooter that has taken a back-seat to some of the more prominent shoot 'em up series, but is an excellent fast-paced game in its own right. It marks the first appearance of the Darius arcade franchise on the SNES, but the third game in the series. The game scenario is that an evil alliance of pillagers and mercenaries under control of the evil dictator Belser, is running rampant around the galaxy attacking the innocent. In order to put a stop to these evil aquatic themed robots, the Galactic Federation sends two of their best silver hawk fighter pilots in their up against them to put a stop to their terror. You pilot of of these ships from planet to planet through unique environments and many diverse stages, doing battle with these evil marauders. Moreover, there are different paths that you can take toward the final stage. Complete a stage and a map appears where you can select the next stage you want to challenge. There are 7 great levels, 12 planets with their own unique appearance, and a total of 16 different paths you can take to reach the final stage. In your journey, you will be able to find many power-ups (missiles and bombs can each be upgraded 8 times) to enhance your fighter. But what I enjoyed most about this upgraded version of the arcade classic, is that if your ship is destroyed, you don't lose all the weapons that you've worked so hard to obtain, and you continue at the same point at which you were destroyed. Awesome!! The graphics are very good, with nicely rendered, massive boss characters. The art direction and color palette is outstanding. The semi-linear gameplay and controls are quite good, and the game has just the right difficulty level, providing a challenge for great players and yet allows the newbies a chance to get used to the series without giving up. Darius Twin features one player or two-player mode where you can recruit a friend to pilot another ship and work in tandem to rid Darius of this scourge. Pre-owned - Includes Game Only, no manual or instructions are included. Rarity Rating "C" - Darius Twin for SNES game review by "Prince" NES Gamer.
