#gm0208 - (Grey Label Cart) - Developed and Published by Nintendo of America Inc., Metroid was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in August of 1986. This is Nintendo's 2D Sci-Fi / Futuristic, action, top down, Side-Scrolling, RPG, Shooter, platformer, called "Metroid," and it is one of the very best games ever created for the NES. Metroid for NES featured many elements characteristic to role playing games, such as having to travel to other areas, searching for items that were necessary to gain access, and working to upgrade your character. But it is not your father's RPG, it really had elements of all genres incorporated, and that was part of its great charm and popularity. The scenario is that a woman named Samus Aran, an adventurous space bounty hunter, is commissioned by the Federation to go to the planet Zebes to rid the universe of an alien life form code named "Metroid". The Galactic Federation is at war with the pirates of planet Zebes, who have stolen a mysterious Mother-brain life-form that was discovered by the Federation on a planet named SR388. The planet had been mysteriously destroyed. The Pirates are also helped by their alien enforcers, Ridley and Kraid. Metroid is now in a state of suspended animation, and the Federation systems analysis has discovered that it was the reason SR388 was destroyed. The Federation knows that if the Metroid was to be loosed or fall into the wrong hands, it could totally devastate many other life systems. So now it is up to Samus to explore a planet that consists of inter-linking tunnels and secret passages, and the perilous terrains of Brinstar and Norfair, destroy the thieving Pirates and their alien enforcers, and rid the universe of the alien life form Metroid. What I love about this game is that Samus can use a wide range of weapons and defenses to destroy the enemy. She also sometimes has the ability to absorb her enemies powers into her cybernetic Power Suit to enhance her defenses and survival odds. The graphics are great for the NES, there are awesome expansive areas, and alternate endings depending on the time taken to make your way through Metroid. It is fun, engrossing, entertaining and challenging, so what more could you ask for.
