#gm0145 - Developed by Technos Japan Corp. and Published by Tradewest, Inc., "Double Dragon" was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in June of 1988, and is an outstanding port of the Super Classic hit arcade game. The game is a 3rd-Person Perspective, Side-Scrolling action fighter. The game scenario is 5 years after a nuclear war, and revolves around twin brothers, who martial arts experts that have been skillfully trained in the secret fighting skills of Sou-Setsu-Ken. Their names are Billy and Jimmy Lee, and together they train people in self-defense at their martial arts school. But there is a vicious street gang called the Black warriors that are ruthlessly led by the infamous Willy. Willy wants the secret techniques of the Sou-Setsu-Ken art, and so he captures Billy Lee's girlfriend Marian and demands Jimmy and Billy disclose the secrets or they will never see Marian again. You play as Billy Lee, or Billy and Jimmy Lee in two player mode. The mission of the game is to control Billy and Jimmy Lee on a rescue mission through the gang ridden streets of post-apocalyptic New York to defeat the Black Warriors and save Billy's girlfriend Marian. This is an excellent game with fluid roll playing elements and outstanding controls. There are four exciting levels, all very excellently designed, the animation fluid, and the graphics and sound are top notch. The music is Rock themed and is very memorable. The boss fights are very challenging. Use whatever is available, from basic punches and kicks to wooden posts that they might acquire. You must pursue the Black Warrior gang through New York city crime slums, an industrial area and the deadly forest before you reach Willy's hideout to take on the big boss. A great feature in Double Dragon is that you actually gain experience from defeating enemies, and this experience is useful in unlocking new fighting abilities.
