#gm0203 - Developed by Namco Limited and Published by Bandai America, Inc., "galaga" was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in September of 1988. Galaga is a NES conversion port of the Arcade Sci-Fi Classic of the same name, and features swarms of insects. More than just a "Space Invaders" clone, Galaga for NES is a vertical shooter and became an instant classic. The scenario is that you are flying your space fighter craft from the bottom of the screen, and you must move from right to left to avoid alien ships and oncoming bombs. But you are not defenseless, you have missiles of your own to fight back with. But be careful, as some alien invaders in galaga have tractor beams on their ships, and they will use it to capture one of your ships. However, if that was not your last ship (life), and you are a good fighter, you can shoot and destroy the alien invader and recapture your ship. Recapturing your ship will give you two ships, doubling your firepower. As you progress through the stages of Galaga you will find that every third level is a "bonus stage" in which you can freely shoot as many aliens as possible to earn extra points. When the game is over, like any great arcade game, you receive a summary, giving you your final score and number of enemies destroyed. Also revealed is the number of missiles fired, your final hit ratio and the percentage of targets hit. All in all Galaga is one of the best and most addictive games ever made for the NES. Your NES collection is not complete without this timeless classic. Also known as "Galaga: Demons of Death".
