#nus-008 - The N64 Jumper pack or pak is simply a Nintendo 64 circuit block that completes the N64 game circuit (in the absense of the optional 8 mb Nintendo 64 expansion pak). The Nintendo 64 Jumper Pak is what comes pre-installed with the N64 console system, and is found under the memory expansion cover plate located on the top of your Nintendo 64 system. This is NOT the optional special memory expansion pac that increases memory to 8 megs, but the original N64 Jumper pack paks that came pre installed with the standard Nintendo 64 system. Though the jumper pak serves no "real" functional purpose for your N64 console, your N64 will not function without it as it is a filler that terminates the RAMBUS bus in the absence of the Expansion Pak. Similar to a continuity RIMM in a RAMBUS motherboard filling the unused RIMM sockets until the user upgrades. Simply put, the only thing a Jumper Pak does is to tell your System it has no expansion pak (extra memory) installed.
