n64pt06 - These are the top and bottom Nintendo 64 RF shields. The N64 RF shield is a piece of coated metal, whose purpose is to protect your N64's RF output from getting corrupted by stray electromagnetic interference from the logic circuitry. It is also designed to minimize outside interference from any stray fields of adjacent electronic devices such as Radio, TV, mobile phones, etc. The N64 RF shields are an integral part of the Nintendo 64 design, and removing it could significantly affect the sensitivity of the board. The quality of the video output will be degraded because of all the interference that the video signal will pick up, and picture quality will thus be affected. Therefore it should never be left out of your N64 system, modded or otherwise. The top shield also serves as a conduit for the heat sinks that disipate the heat of the N64 chips.
Removing the old shield is easy as removing the screws that hold it in place. Adding a shield or replacing the shield is accomplished by reversing the process. Includes the two RF shields, for the top and bottom of the Nintendo 64 motherboard circuit-board.
