Disney's Duck Tales

gm0263 - Developed and Published by Capcom Co., Ltd., "Disney's Duck Tales" was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1989. This is an old school traditional 3rd-Person Perspective, 2-D side-scrolling action adventure platformer game loosely based on the 1980's cartoon show of the same name. Produced by key personnel from the Mega Man series, DuckTales was a giant commercial success and received great reviews. As a player, you take control of greedy Uncle Scrooge McDuck in attempting to become the richest Duck in the world, and go in search of treasure through five diverse stages. They range from The Himalayas, Transylvania, the Amazonian jungle, African Mines and the moon. After completing one of the five levels, McDuck will be whisked to the next location. You are allowed to visit the levels in any order you choose and can go back to them in order to access new areas that are unlocked after collecting certain items. On his quest, Scrooge McDuck will encounter characters like his three nephews and on other Duck Tales characters from the show that will help point Scrooge to clues that help complete the level. He will encounter a number of enemies, and can use his cane in number of different ways. Not the least of which is as a weapon where he can jump on his enemies. But it can also be useful in other ways, such as swinging it like a golf club to whack rocks and force diamonds out of coal. It can also be very useful as a pogo stick to jump or bounce to get to greater heights, or to avoid damage from spikes in the path. The graphics of Disney's Duck Tales are great. They are colorful and well done for the 8-bit system. The sound effects are outstanding, and this NES game features some of the greatest music in Nintendo gaming history, which takes you back to the TV series. Moreover, the tunes are catchy as well as memorable. The controls are tight and fairly simple. So don't be fooled by the name, Disney's Ducktales gets two thumbs up from me. It is a remarkable game and ahead of its time. It also proves that you don't have to be a kid to love this super Capcom classic.
