Contra

$49.99

gm0013 - Released in February of 1988 by the Konami Corporation , contra is one of the best and most popular shooter games ever made. In one fell swoop it took the simple premise of kicking alien butt to a whole other level. Rare today not because there were not a lot of them made, but because few people want to give them up. The scenario is that in 2631, the terrorist group "Red Falcon," working on behalf of alien invaders, have seized control of New Zealand. It's up to two elite Marines from the Contra Unit (Bill Rizer and Lance Bean) to take on the terrorist and neutralize the alien presence. As players Bill and Lance, you must fight your way through eight stages of the game to take on an alien boss at the end of each. Bill and Lance can along the way upgrade their simple weapons with some cool powerups. They are the machine gun, the Zapper, the lazer weapon, and the most powerful, the dreaded spreader. With active and addictive gameplay, great graphics and the ability to fire in all directions, this game couldn't help but become a smash it. One of the greatest innovations on the contra game was the novelty (at the time it was released) of fighting from multiple perspectives. It was a side scrolling game for a level, then the next level offered a view from behind your characters. These little changes keep you interested where you have to stay on your toes to succeed. Bottom line, Konami's Contra is without question a "Classic" that is as addictive and fun to play today as it was when it was first released. If this isn't in your collection, you don't know NES!
