#gm0101 - NES Game Review - Developed and Published by the Konami Corporation, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project" was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in February of 1992. This is the rare third and possibly best game in the TMNT series and was the last side-scrolling Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game for NES. This side-scrolling brawler is designed in the vein of Double Dragon. The game scenario is that the turtles are vacationing in Key West, Florida after fighting crime and evil for so long. As they are watching April's Newscast concerning escalating crime, the TV network's signal goes out. That is when the dastardly Shredder appears on the TV. He takes April hostage and raises the entire island of Manhattan skyward above New York City. Our heroic turtles, Michaelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael, quickly return to Manhattan to try and rescue April and once again defeat Shredder. There are eight huge grueling levels of action that the Turtles will have to fight through in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project. They include battling Baron Von Spleen's Battle Barge, surviving the Typhoon Tide Pool, and a host of others. The graphics and the gameplay for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project are greatly improved and the Turtles all fight in new and interesting locations. The sound and music that plays throughout the entire game is just fantastic, and even the voice acting sounds great. Another nice new feature is that the turtles now all have special individual moves. They will also be helped by having access to a spaceship, jet-powered surfboards and a blimp. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project is everything you'd expect in a great sequel, and more. Play alone or with a friend in the multi-player mode. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project is also known as "TMNT 3," "TMNT III" and in Japan, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II".
