gm0193 - Developed and Published by Tecmo, Ltd., "Solomon's Key" was released for the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in July of 1987. This rare title is without a doubt one of the most overlooked and underrated titles for the NES platform. It is an enchanting and quite challenging puzzle / action adventure game. The scenario of Solomon's Key is that a long time ago, the unique power of evil was locked away inside a book, that was hidden away from those who might release it. Unfortunately a Monk found the book and unwittingly unleased this great evil upon mankind. That's where you come is, because it is now on the shoulders of the great wizard Dana to set things aright. Solomon's Key is a platform game that runs the gambit of action, puzzles and strategy genres and elements. It features 50 room levels filled with bad guys, blocks to be moved and traps that will require a series of complex actions in order to collect the key and exit the level. Making matters more challenging is that each level features a time limit in which the tasks must be completed. In each room or level your quest is to retrieve the key that is used used to unlock the door to exit. In order to do so, you carefully arrange the blocks on the screen so you can move around safely. However patrolling the levels are diverse enemies that will take your life if you are caught. To combat this, you will have the assistance of your magic wand, and with it you can destroy some of the blocks your enemies are standing on, though some cannot be destroyed. You can also create blocks with the wand. One of the great things about Solomon's Key is the many hidden bonuses and magic that can be found hidden in blocks or simply located on many of the levels. Some of the treasures found in Solomon's Key will give you magic spells and others will give you bonus points. All in all, Solomon's Key is one of the most challenging NES games out there, and is loaded with nice secrets. A sleeper that definitely belongs on your "Best NES" list. The Japanese alternative title for this game is "Solomon No Kagi". Pre-owned - Includes Game Only - ESRB Rating E for Everyone - Rarity Rating C+ - Solomon's Key Review by "NES Gamer".
