10-Yard Fight

  • Manufactured by: NES Games, Parts & Service

#gm0163 - Developed and published by Irem Corp., 10-yard Fight was released in 1986 and is a simple conversion of Irem's "10-Yard Fight" from the Arcade, without their point system. It is a game based on the football style of the National Football League. You can play against the computer, or play against a friend. The gameplay for ten yard fight is top-down and vertical-scrolling. There are five difficulty levels, consisting of High School, Collegiate, Professional, Playoff, and Super Bowl. A nice touch about this game is that when you win at any of the lower difficulty levels, the next game is played at the next highest difficulty level. As far as gameplay options, the simplicity is that there are no plays or formations to chose from. On defense, you simply choose from among two players and "get after it!!!" On offense, you take the snap as quarterback and either Pass, toss it to the running backs, or keep it yourself on the run. Whenever you do not score or make the grade, you can attempt a field goal or punt. There are two halves of football to play. Ten Yard Fight is a very active game for the NES, and can last a long time. Despite what some critics say, comparing this with more complicated games, this was a simple football game that was just plain fun to play in an era where simple was enough.
