#gm0097 - Developed by Action Graphics and published by Acclaim, Winter Games was released in September of 1987. In this offering from the Epyx Sporting Game series, you can compete in a variety of different Winter Games sporting events. There are four events you can play in this version. Hot Dog Aerials, Speed Skating, Figure Skating and Bobsled. In Hot Dog Aerials you can do all sorts of dazzling forward and backward flips and stunts. It's definitely a lot of fun especially with the funny sound effects and crashes that take place when you're not on the mark. The second event in Winter Games is Speed Skating. In this you alternate pressing the left and right buttons to take strides and this makes for a more realistic game play. What I like most here is the great music and the split screen where you can see your position in the race relative to the other racers. Figure skating is the next sporting event. This is the most difficult challenge of the four, especially landings on the jumps. The last sporting event is the Bobsled. This one may seem a little complicated at first as it has different windows displaying relevant information via a speedometer, a course map, and your course position. It's tough but, as we say, "how do you get to Carnegie hall?" ..practice! All in all, Winter Games is not really a bad game if you are into sporting games.
