The Wizard of Oz

sgm0086 - Developed by Manley & Associates, Inc. and Published by SETA Corporation, "The Wizard of Oz" was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1993. This is a very rare 3rd-Person side-scrolling action adventure platformer game that also involves exploration and puzzle-solving. It is a fun game, extremely challenging and addictive that combines elements of the classic L. Frank Baum book, the famous MGM's 1939 musical movie Staring Judy Garland and the animated Series by DIC. The action in The Wizard of Oz is divided among four worlds. You gain a fellow traveler in each of the first three worlds (the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Lion). You may then change between your companions, and this can be key to survival, as each traveler has his own unique skill sets, attacks and abilities. You should also become proficient in using a combination of all these characters to fully explore your surroundings. However, when you reach the forth world, the wicked Witch is encountered and must be defeated. The Wizard of Oz features many different mini-games, that give you the ability to play as "Your little dog too," which of course is Toto. I enjoyed the fact that you can go back to levels to restock your items or find Emerald City tickets. you will need these because they are necessary to enter the final area. The graphics are good, and the sound is very well done. If you have seen the classic Judy Garland movie, you will recognize the music! This rare gem is worth the effort in finding a nice copy.
