#n64gm087 - Developed by H2O Entertainment and Published by Nintendo of America Inc., "Tetrisphere" was released for the Nintendo 64 (N64) Entertainment System on August 11, 1997. Tetrisphere is a hidden gem that is not as famous or well known as Tetris, but is a superb brain-teaser, puzzle-solving video game that adds a new twist to the classic Tetris, and can be played alone, or with a friend in multiplayer mode. It really is a unique (tetris of the diverse kind) and exhilarating treat that features many exciting game modes including Rescue, Hide N Seek, Puzzle, Time Trial and VS CPU where you get to fight the bots (Rocket, Gear, Gyro, Stomp, Wheels, Turbine, Jak). And beside from the main game mode with 300 levels that increase in difficulty, there are dozens of other game modes you can play. As usual, the concept is that you drop pieces into the playing field to eliminate the blocks and clear the field, but that is where the similarity ends. The playing field is actually a 3D sphere, and you must turn the sphere around to find a suitable place to drop the pieces. Your goal is to remove enough to reach the center of the sphere and move on to the next level. And as you progress and remove pieces, it may reveal special items such as dynamite or rockets to help get to the center. You will have three lives, and if you misplace a piece three times without removing any, you lose. Tetrisphere also features customizing where you can choose how many layers you want, shapes you want to use, and the percentage of light needed to complete it. The graphics in Tetrisphere are great, with a framerate that never seems to drop. The rendering is very beautiful and so well designed that the Sphere actually moves when you drop a piece on it. And if that doesn't bring a spark to your eye, this game features a killer upbeat soundtrack to bring one to your ear. All in all, Tetrisphere is a super fun and addicting game that will challenge your skills and wits and satisfy almost any type of gamer. Originally known as Phear in the development stage, Tetrisphere by any other name rocks the Casbah. Pre-owned - Includes Game Only - Rarity Rating B- : Tetrisphere review by Prince NES Gamer
