n64gm214 - Developed by Probe Entertainment Ltd. and Published by Acclaim Entertainment, Inc., "Forsaken 64" was released for the Nintendo 64 (N64) Entertainment System on May 26, 1998. This is a futuristic 1st-Person Perspective action adventure and shooter game. The scenario of Forsaken 64 is that after a bungled subatomic experiement results in an explosion and shockwave that destroys the earth's atmosphere and leaves it uninhabitable from radiation of the sun, the rest of the people of the known galaxy condemns the entire planet as a desolate zone. The only people who dare enter this unstable enviroinment are bounty hunters, gold miners and scavengers. You play the role of a fortune-seeking scavenger who takes his eavily armed hover-bike into the dangerous and disintegrating caverns of this wasteland in search of crystals and gold in abandoned Temples, nuclear facilities, military installations and refineries. But There are other scavengers and bounty hunters that may stand in your way, and the defense system of these places is still active and complicate matters with automated Ray Gun turrets, drone and tanks. To fight off these threats, you have a dazzling and unique array of 25 weapons featuring everything from guns and Ray Guns to flamethrowers and rockets. I also like that you can choose the crosshair size. Each level has a exit at the end which you must reach within a set time period with the surrounding areas collapsing around you. The gameplay and control in Forsaken 64 is comprehensive and responsive. And although the game moves quite fast at times, you'll easily grasp the scheme of things and be able to keep up. Another very nice aspect is that it gives you freedom of movement in 3 dimensions (you can go up, down; left, right; forward, backward), maneuvering your craft in swerves, acceleration and strafing. The graphics are simply stunning, with outstanding level design that pops. Forsaken 64 also features the ability to change between a first-person and a third-person viewpoint. You can also increase or decrease the brightness and contrast levels. The music is performed and produced by the Swarm (Dominic Glynn & Stephen Root) and features dynamic bass, drum and electronica tracks. And you can toggle the individual sound volumes and change the background music during the game. The multiplayer action features 4 player split-screen play and you can challenge them to a deathmatch or battle with up to three computer controlled players. Forsaken 64 is similar to the game Descent (but much better), and a lot of addictive fun knowing that your only goal is to grab the loot and get off the planet safely. It should be on anyone's top N64 games list of shotter games. Pre-owned - Includes Game Only, no manual or instructions are included. Rarity Rating "B+" - Fighting Force 64 game review by Prince NES Gamer.
