n64gm155 - Developed and Published by Rare, Ltd., "Jet Force Gemini" is one of the most unique titles by this company and was released for the Nintendo 64(N64) Entertainment System on October 12, 1999. Jet Force Gemini easily joins Rareware's impressive stable of hits, which includes Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, Turok and Banjo-Kazooie. This is game a futuristic, 3rd-person perspective, 3D action-shooter. The game scenario is that after cadet Juno sees his parents murdered by the evil interstellar conqueror Mizar and his Droids, he and his twin counterpart Vela, along with their dog Lupus, set out to fight these heinous space pirates. These three are Jet Force Gemini, intergalactic police, and their mission is to defeat this evil space bug, Mizar and prevent his galactic conquest. Juno, Vela and Lupus each have their own unique and special abilities that are an important element of the game and will be useful for strategy. Juno can walk on lava as he is impervious to its heat. Vela can swim under water and Lupus has a cannon on his back and have a hover ability that allows him to jump much further than the others. He can also fit through smaller spaces. Mizar has a seemingly infinite army of Drones that you will have to stop, while retrieving spaceship parts and attempting to help King Jeff rescue his adorable furry Tribal subjects. These peaceful people have been subjugated and enslaved on their planet of Goldwood. It is also your tedious job to rescue them. The AI for the enemies you are fighting is very good, even changing tactics on the fly while attacking you. Juno, Vela and Lupus will be given progressively more powerful weapons as the game progresses. And the variety of weaponry is fantastic. At various times of upgrade you will have at your disposal the likes of a Tri-Roclket launcher, a machine gun or a type of plasma shotgun. The team will also be joined by the floating gun Droid Floyd, which is a hover robot that can be controlled by a second player. The frame rate is not very good but the graphics are still good, and features so many different and beautiful 3D environments. The music is some of the very best ever put into a N64 game. The gameplay is not up to the likes of Goldeneye, but what is? Jet Force Gemini also features three different multiplayer modes, consisting of Battle, target Shoot and racing. One thing that struck me early on was that this was going to be a very difficult game to beat. Jet Force Gemini is not perfect by any means, and the learning curve is steep. However, the nit picky complaints I often hear do little to spoil Jet Force Gemini's appeal and variety. The game is extremely exciting, unique, fun and quite stimulating. In Japan Jet Force Gemini is known as "Star Twins." Pre-owned - Includes Game Only, no manual or instructions are included. Rarity Rating "C" - JetForce Gemini game review by Prince NES Gamer.
