Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon

  - n64gm162 - This rare gem was developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Osaka Co., Ltd. and Published by Konami of America, Inc., "Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon" was released for the Nintendo 64 (N64) Entertainment System on April 16, 1998. This rare action RPG is a 3rd-Person Perspective Anime RPG, exploration-based platformer game similar to the style of Zelda, the Ocarina of time. This is only the second of Japan's popular Goemon series to reach the United States and the fifth in the series. Let me say right off that this is not your ordinary video game, it doesn't take itself seriously, which you'll realize quickly as a chubby character by the name of Ebisumaru rips off his clothes and starts dancing because he wants a discount on clothes from a clothes-store owner. It is one of the most original quirky and strange games I've ever played. Set in ancient Japan, the game scenario is that a unidentified flying object in the shape of a peach has come to the sleepy town of Oedo and the townsfolk are in a panic! The Peach Mountain Shoguns have taken over Oedo Castle and turned it into their own private performing stage. It's your job to travel from town to town, collecting information and purchasing helpful items in this quest to defeat the dreaded Peach Mountain Shoguns and save the townsfolk. When Yae gets the transportation flute, it allows you to summon a dragon to chauffeur Goemon and his entourage across the eastern skies. As you make your way across Ancient Japan, you explore its ancient towns, castles, and mysterious bamboo groves in polygonal 3D. you talk to characters to gain information, and attack enemies by throwing coins or hitting them with your pipe. You can change between any of the four characters with the push of a button, and each character has his own tools and abilities at his disposal. You use these particular abilities to access other locations as you advance through the game. The graphics are outstanding and features more high quality cut-scenes than any N64 game I know of, and not just for aesthetics, they help move the story along nicely. Another great thing about Mystical Ninja is that this game has an amazing soundtrack. Mystical Ninja tight-ropes the fine line between brilliance and weird and offbeat and doesn't disappoint. The gameplay offers elements of platform jumping, action, exploration, puzzles, battles, but there are also plenty of adventure and RPG elements and you can talk to everyone and everything. A rare gem, a lot of fun, and I recommend it to any N64 gamer. Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is also known as Gambare Goemon 5 and The Warrior 5. In Japan this game is known as Ganbare Goemon: Neo Momoyama Bakufu no Odori! Pre-owned - Includes Game Only, no manual or instructions are included.
