n64gm166 - Developed by Eurocom Developments Ltd and Published by Midway Games, Inc., "War Gods" was released for the Nintendo 64 (N64) Entertainment System on April 30, 1997. This is a one-on-one 3D 3rd-Person Perspective fighting game based on the coin-operated original arcade game of the same name. The game scenario is that many, many years ago, a spaceship carrying precious life-giving ore crashes on earth, and over many years ten humans come in contact with the rocks, and are instantly transformed into powerful immortals called War Gods. Now these powerful humanoid life forms that exist in the past, present, and future and residing in the cosmos have been awakened by this mysterious force to decide who amongst them is the most powerful immortal. There are 10 different fighters that you can choose from, each character based on a different ancient civilizations. War Gods can be enjoyed by novice and seasoned gamers because there are five different difficulty levels that feature thoroughly customizable options (continues, fatalities, control settings). With practice anyone can master many diverse moves and even combine them for a more powerful effect on your opponent. Each character has a meter that registers damage from opponent hits, and the match ends when one of the character's meter expires. Each also has special "finishing moves" that will dispatch their opponent in a bloody and gruesome manner at the end of the match. Once you defeat all of the primary characters, you will step up to face two different uber-fighters, which are Exor and Grox. The graphics in War Gods are impressive quite unique in that they were developed by texture-mapping 3-D character patterns using digitized portraits of people, making them appear more realistic than those in other games. The 3-D arena is crisp, the backgrounds are well designed and the characters are reasonably detailed. The sound effects in war gods is pretty good, especially the effects of special moves and punches as well as the cool game's announcer. The music is just standard arcade fighting game fare, slightly above average I would say. Game control is average, what you would expect. Pre-owned - Includes Game Only, no manual or instructions are included. Rarity Rating "C" - War Gods game review by "Prince" NES Gamer.
