n64gm185 - Developed by Iguana West and Published by Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. "NHL Breakaway '99" was released for the Nintendo 64 (N64) Entertainment System on November 27, 1998. Acclaim's second hockey game for the Nintendo 64 is the 3rd-person perspective sequel to NHL Break Away 98, but with many great upgrades/updates to rosters, teams, Jerseys, schedules and gameplay. It features all 27 National Hockey League teams, including the expansion team, Nashville Predators. They are all updated with current stats and ratings from the 1997-1998 NHL hockey season. NHL Breakaway 99 for the Nintendo 64 System has five game modes which include, Practice Mode, Exhibition Mode, Shootout Mode, Season Mode and playoff Mode. The whole family can play because there are adjustable settings that range from difficulty level to game speed. There are also options for injuries, fatigue, fighting, and penalties. As far as the basics, the ease of control helps make this a real fun game to play. The game control is well designed, intuitive for beginners and you can decide on the best camera angle out of eight possible views. The graphics are high resolution and the advanced lighting effects add to the atmosphere and give the arenas pop. The audio and sound effects are average and the game features NHL star Steve Yzerman of the Detroit Red Wings giving in-game scouting reports and strategy recommendations if needed. One of the real nice feature of the Breakaway series is its management mode that awards points for every victory. If you win a season you can use the points you win to decrease injury time, player development, coaching staffs and make trades (as many as six players at once). Pre-owned - Includes Game Only, no manual or instructions are included. NHL Breakaway 99 Ice Hockey game review by "The Prince" NES Gamer.
