Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

gcg0170 - Developed by Warthog Games Ltd. and Published by Electronic Arts, Inc., "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" was released for the Gamecube Nintendo Entertainment System (GCN) on December 9, 2003. This is a 3-D 3rd-Person Perspective action fantasy adventure game adapted from the Harry Potter book and film of the same name, dealing with Potter's first year at school of magic Hogwarts. The game scenario is that the story sticks pretty close to the first book in author J.K. Rowling's franchise and let's you play as young Harry. Best friends Ron and Hermione stumble through a doorway into a room that is being guarded by a three-headed dog. The game is organized into distinct days and nights that feature lessons and explorations of the the castle to complete tasks and other things. There are times when they must solve puzzles or when threatening creatures will block their way and must be defeated using the correct magic and spells. There are a lot of collectibles that can be found in open as well as hidden areas. For example, collecting 20 wizard cards will increases Harry's health, and all the beans collected can be traded for more cards or other useful items. You can also have fun revisiting the classes to get a better grade. When playing during night hours, Harry must keep an eye out for school prefects who patrol the floors of the castle so as to avoid getting sent back to the common room. The gameplay and control is identical to last year's game, allowing you to move Harry with the controller's analog stick, and use the face buttons for context-sensitive actions and spells. The graphics of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone are not much improved over last year's game, but are not poor at all. As for the sound and music, it's done very well, but it isn't remarkable or outstanding. Something new here is that the audio is also available in Spanish, so that gives this game a very cool bilingual feature. If you're a big fan of the book or movie about Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, then hop onto Harry's Nimbus 2000 broom and set out to learn and explore as you participate in Wizard Duels, Quidditch league games and more.
