The Pirates of Dark Water


SGM0039 - Developed and Published by SunSoft, "The Pirates of Dark Water" was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in May of 1994. Based on a cartoon series by the same name, this very rare title is a side scrolling fighting game. As you adventure through it, bands of pirates attack players from every direction. You must also avoid the many obstacles like falling rocks, perilous gorges and spikes that fly up out of earth. There are also pools of dark water and sudden earthquakes that can put you out of commission in a hurry, so you will need to stay alert in order to traverse this game safely. The scenario is that a water world called Mer is threatened by the deadly Dark Water, and it is up to you to save this world. There are three characters from which you can choose to play, including Prince Ren, Tula and Ioz. Each of these characters have their own unique abilities of strength and agility, but they all use the same basic attacks. There is also a special attack that permits you to apply blows to multiple enemies and consume life energy. Your quest is to search out and find the treasures of Rule to bring the Dark Water under control, that Mer can be returned to its former peaceful tranquility. But also searching for the treasure is your nemesis, the evil pirate Bloth. He wants it to find the treasures of Rule in order to fund his evil rule over Mer. The gameplay of The Pirates of Dark Water is standard, and the game controls are excellent, and allow for grabbing your opponent, blocking attacks and even throwing them. The graphics are also very nice, with excellent character designs that make all of the action seem realistic and give nice atmosphere. Playing alone or with a friend, if you enjoy the fighting genre of games, the Pirates of Dark Water is an great adventure that you will love.
