Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire

N64GM058 - Developed by LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC and Published by Nintendo of America Inc., "Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire" was released for the Nintendo 64 gaming system on December 03, 1996. From the start you can tell that this game is exciting, different and gives you a certain rush that continues throughout. Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire is a futuristic 3rd-Person Perspective 3-D action game based upon the novel of the same name. It begins on the ice planet of Hoth, near Echo Base, in the midst of a great battle on Snow Speeders. Riding your snowspeeder as Dash Rendar, your mission is to wipe out the Droids, Imperial Walkers and other sundry machines that stand in the way of the Rebel alliance. The storyline is set between the time of the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. And though a lot of actions and plot connections that have been seen in the Star Wars Trilogy can be found in this N64 game, the story is completely diverse from the movies. It has many great location scenes, including Ice planet Hoth, the sewers of Imperial City and Mos Eisley. There 10 unique levels, including foot levels. The game scenario of Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire is that Prince Xizor has set out to foil the Rebel's plans of victory. And if he can overthrow Darth Vader to become the head leader of the dark side of the force at the same time, so much the better. The graphics are outstanding with all of the environments highly detailed. The gameplay is excellent with tight controls. You will even actually get the sensation of flying when you are on the speeders. The controls are stellar, integrated very smoothly into the game. And there are very clear and achievable mission objectives. The sound effects are very appropriate, and the musical score is very fitting to the story. All in all, "Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire" is an excellent Nintendo 64 3D action game that you will want in your collection. In Japan "Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire" is called, "Star Wars: Teikoku no Kage".
